Christ on the cross of the "cristo morto" type
Bronze with brown patina
46x38 inch
During the Renaissance and after the Counter-Reformation, the representation of the body of Christ took a turn towards idealization; idealization to which Jean Bologna adheres with enthusiasm and talent. In line with Donatello and Cellini, it presents an aerial Christ, from which the weight of the body and of suffering are absent.
This model was a great success and was taken up by the founders of the following centuries.
