Heading up the jewellery department is specialist Chantal Beauvois, who assisted Jacques Tajan for more than 15 years.
This area of expertise is one of the jewels in the crown of Monte-Carlo Auction House. Six specialists and colleagues manage between four and six sales each year. The biggest of these is the summer auction held at the Café de Paris, to which professionals, collectors and private buyers from around the world flock. Sales organised by other auction houses help to attract huge numbers of connoisseurs over the course of a week. The Paris firm Beauvois contributes to compilation and valuation work for all jewellery and watch auctions.
The results have been unparalleled… As one example, an exquisite diamond and Kashmir sapphire necklace of Belgian provenance sold for €1,850,000, while another sapphire, also a Kashmir stone, from a Middle Eastern collector brought in €1,110,000. Another speciality is natural pearls. And again from a Belgian collection, this Maison Cartier necklace sold for €420,000
