Terracotta
H. 10 cm
Eastern Europe or Anatolia, Neolithic, Millennial BC
Origin
French private collection of Monsieur G., acquired in the 1980s, then by descent
Presented frontally, her anatomy is characterized by a generous chest, a slim waist and very wide hips. The lower part of her belly is plump. The pubic lines are incised.
This representation refers to the fertility figures or mother goddesses of the Neolithic.
The anatomy of this idol is reminiscent of the representations of fertility idols from Hacilar in Anatolia. But the absence of the head as well as the arms does not allow us to identify the culture precisely.
