AN HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA STATUETTE OF TANAGRA, 4TH CENTURY B.C.
9 in. High.
Standing, resting on the right leg, dressed in a himation draped over a chiton. While her left arm along the side, is wrapped in a part of the coat, she brings the material over her left shoulder with her right hand, suggested by the crossing of the folds on her silhouette, type of the female figurines of Tanagra . The most important example is the one from the Herculaneum theater, found with another larger statue, hence their nickname, Great and Little Herculanaise. They are dated around the 4th century B.C.
