L’animal de profil est tourné vers la gauche. Les détails bien exécutés de son anatomie indique qu’il s’agit d’un chien maltais. Le sujet, peu courant, est représenté sur certaines
gemmes scaraboïdes de production gréco-persane de la fin de l’âge classique.
Dans le cas présent, le choix d’un petit cabochon d’améthyste situe la gemme à l’ère hellénistique. Cette bague était destinée à un enfant comme le révèle la petite taille de la monture en or. Légères traces d’usure.

gems of Graeco-Persian production from the end of the classical age. In this case, the choice of a small amethyst cabochon places the gem in the Hellenistic era.
This ring was intended for a child as revealed by the small size of the gold frame. Slight signs of wear.
