Ce portrait présente les caractéristiques d’un grand penseur ou philosophe. Le
visage est caractérisé par des traits mûrs, creusés, la bouche entre-ouverte laisse
apparaître les dents du haut. Les rides du fronts apparentes, les poches sous les
yeux, le creux des joues et les profonds sillons nasaux rappellent les représentations
du poète et historien Hésiode. Les arcades sourcilières, ainsi que l’arrête du
nez sont endommagés.
A roman stone head of a philosopher or poet. This portrait presents the characteristics
of a great thinker or philosopher. The face is characterized by mature, hollow
features, the half-open mouth reveals the upper teeth. The visible forehead wrinkles,
the bags under the eyes, the hollow of the cheeks and the deep nasal furrows
recall the representations of the poet and historian Hesiod. The eyebrow arches, as
well as the bridge of the nose are damaged. 1st-2nd century A.D.
