Bronze; L 38,2 cm
Grèce, VIIe – VIe s. av. J.-C.
An important of Greek bronze handles. Archaic period, 7th-6th century B.C. The two
pieces, cast in bronze, are practically identical but specular and therefore must
have belonged to the same cauldron. The rounded rods, which were welded to
the edge of the vessel, end in a fierce-looking lion protome, while the rings, which
constituted the handles of the cauldron, are decorated with a bull’s head. Well
preserved, dark brown metal surface, remains of green patina.
